Hi lovelies, I don’t know about you but I have definitely been having more down days recently. Most likely due to current events, but also because of how they have affected our lives. We’ve had to postpone our wedding, my appointment that I’ve been waiting months for might be cancelled, and there’s nothing to look forward to in the near future! So, I’ve been making sure to take some time out for myself and practice some self care when I’m feeling a little rough, either physically or mentally.
Self Care Ideas for Every Down Day
Take a long soak in the bath
Honestly, I don’t feel like there’s any better self care than having a long bath. Get those candles lit, get your favourite drink (I’m partial to a cup of tea or even a glass of wine!) and unwind for an hour or so, with just bubbles for company.
Read a good book
This could be fiction, or a self-help book, depending on what you like and what you’re in the mood for. I personally always have a book on the go on my Kindle, and usually have a stack of ‘to read’ books on my bedside table as well! Get an early night, cosy up in bed and get reading! Better yet, take a yummy hot chocolate with all the toppings as well and enjoy some time with your new favourite characters!
Have a phone free day
Right now, going on social media or checking the news every other minute can be super overwhelming, and honestly, that won’t be doing you any favours. I really recommend have a completely phone free day and just enjoy on being in the moment, being present and being offline. Instagram will always be there when you come back!
Perfect your skincare routine
There is nothing quite like a good skincare routine when you’re feeling a bit down. I love to do a face mask, and maybe even a hair mask whilst relaxing in the bath. There is nothing better than the feeling of a fresh, clean and moisturised face! If you need some ideas for skincare products, check out my skincare routine for dry and sensitive skin!
Sing & dance like no one is watching
Because no one is unless you’re doing it for TikTok! When I am feeling rubbish, I love getting my favourite tunes on and having a singsong and a dance in the kitchen while either baking some goodies or cooking tea for Angus and I. This is SUCH a mood booster! Right now I am loving Twiggie and Lizzo for some girl boss, feel-good songs.
Hinch yourself happy!
Literally, cleaning is such a mood-booster, for me it is anyway. Get some tunes on, get the cloths out and spring-clean your house! Before you know it, you”ll be singing and dancing like no one is watching. And, you know what they say, tidy space… tidy mind. I always feel a million times better when my home is clean and tidy. It means I can properly relax and enjoy all the other self care activities I’ve suggested, without feeling any guilt!
Practice some Mindfulness
This is super important if your mental health is suffering, which with the current climate, it quite possibly is! Mindfulness is the perfect way to banish unwanted and negative thoughts and be completely present in that moment. This is complete self-care for your mind! If you want a mini guide, then definitely read the next idea below!
Download the Pack of Positivity!
Ok so this is a definitely plug for myself, sorry not sorry! This pack has everything from self-reflection, gratitude worksheets, a mini mindfulness guide and how to create achievable to-do lists. This would be the perfect pack for you to get hold of if you want to practice some self care. It is completely free so it’s healthy for your bank account too! You can read more about it here!
I hope this has given you some self care ideas for next time you’re having a down day. Just remember, it’s ok not to be ok, embrace your feelings, and know that you’re not alone. Talk to someone, get it off your chest and take some time out. It’s ok. What do you love to do for some self care?
Until next time,
