Hi folks! A post for my skincare routine has been highly requested for well over a year, I do apologise that it has taken so long. It’s taken me a while to be completely happy with my skincare, but I am finally there, and I do feel like my skin has never been better! And what perfect time than now to invest in your skincare, and create a routine that you truly love! I’ve definitely wanted to do a little bit more self-care at the moment with being in isolation, it’s lovely to be able to treat yourself in such difficult times!
Most of the products I use are from The Body Shop, and this is one of the reasons I have waited so long to do it. I have quite sensitive and dry skin, and so to truly know if I like a product, I need to try it for a few months first. My usual test is to see if I want to buy another once I’ve finished the first – often I don’t! I find myself just using up products because I don’t want to waste them, rather than repeat buying products that I love. But now, my routine mainly has products that I have used consistently for 6 months or longer.
In the morning I always like to start with quickly washing my face, and to do that I just use The Body Shop Drops of Youth Gentle Foaming Wash with a clean flannel. This really does what it says on the box and creates a lovely lather so you really feel like your face is fresh and clean after! This is also one of the few cleansers that doesn’t actively dry my face as well, it always feels amazing afterward.
There are two serums I might use, one being The Body Shop Drops of Youth Concentrate, and the other being The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid*. If I had to pick one, it would be The Body Shop one as it just makes my skin feel amazing, but I do really like both. But, if you need a budget-friendly option, the hyaluronic acid is really good as well, especially if your skin is feeling particularly dry!
I have been through so many different moisturisers, and have never found one that is quite right for me. But then, I found my ride or die, my hold grail, and I will never ever stop using it. It’s The Body Shop Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream (note, it needs to be the intense one!). Since using this regularly, my skin has never felt better. It completely eradicates any tight, dry skin and makes it feel so good. It also looks great under makeup! It is a lovely thick consistency, which glides onto your skin like butter. And I promise you, once you use this, you won’t look back.
In the evening, I keep it simple. To remove any makeup, I use either the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil* which is my go to for makeup remover. Because it is essentially an oil, my skin feels really good after this. To be honest, if you were feeling particularly lazy, you could get away with just doing this and nothing else! But, as I can’t afford the high price tag every single time, the next best thing is The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter. This is equally as good, and has a much more realistic price tag!
I recently bought The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil to use at night, but to be honest, if you use the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil, you really don’t need this as well! I think it works much better with the Camomile cleansing butter. I’ve only used it a few times, but so far, so good!
For moisturiser, I usually use the same Vitamin E cream that I mentioned before. But I also like to use the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask* 2-3 times a week for that extra boost of moisture!
As & When Skincare
As part of my weekly skincare routine, I also like to use some ‘as & when’ products. I can’t say specifically how often I use these two products but I do try to use them at least once a week, if not twice!
Firstly, The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel. If you haven’t used this product before, you need to try it. It literally gets all the dry, dead skin off your face, like an exfoliator but much more gently and softly. And, you can actually see everything that comes off your face – you will be shocked and amazed!
I also like to use a face mask, and I recently bought The Body Shop Mediterranean Almond Milk with Oats Instant Soothing Mask. I have only used it once, but this gently exfoliates your skin as well soothing it from any dryness and tightness. It is made specifically for people with sensitive skin (a.k.a. me) and I will definitely be using this more often!
