Hello 2017!

Hello 2017!

While many people are saying goodbye to 2016, I am saying HELLO to 2017. Next year is going to be my year. I am full of hope and motivation. I’m full of new goals and ideas. But most of all, I’m full of optimism.
I’m not going to start the new year sad that the previous year has ended. I’m not going to get down an upset about those goals that I didn’t achieve, or those ideas I didn’t follow through. I’m going to start the year afresh, with new goals and ideas, and a new bundle of motivation.

So in this blog post I thought I would share with you a few of my goals for 2017 and a few new things I am doing which I hope will help me achieve these goals. These include my weight loss, fitness and healthy eating goals, they include my goals for University, my blogging goals and goals for my personal life.
I hope you enjoy this post, and I hope that this list of goals will inspire you to come up with your own list, ready to start the new year on a high!

Health & Fitness

My health and weight loss goals are my top priority this year. I don’t want to let ME/CFS take control of my life any more. From now on, I want to CHOOSE when I want to have a duvet day, I want to CHOOSE when I’m going to rest, and I want to CHOOSE to be well and healthy. This might seem very unrealistic for someone with a chronic illness, but I really hope that by staying optimistic, and by following my own advice with time management, I will be able to do this. And the way I am going to do this is through my eating and fitness habits.
I am one of those rare people that actually find exercise helpful for me with my illness, but not in the short term. In the short term it can really set me back and it can really make be feel unwell. This, as a result, can naturally really demotivate me and I can find that I really don’t want to go back and do more exercise. BUT, if I push through this and take it slowly, then I find it is really beneficial for me in the long run, and the symptoms of my illness can really improve. What I am NOT saying, is that this will work for everyone with a chronic illness because that is absolutely not the case. Everybody should talk to their doctor before embarking on any sort of exercise, especially those with a chronic illness.
My other health and fitness goal is to eat healthier, cleaner food, which will naturally help me to lose weight – it’s kind of a given! This morning I have received two books from two of my favourite fitness Instagram women; Clean Eating Alice (@clean_eating_alice) and Zanna Van Dijk (@zannavandijk). Both of them inspire and motivate me so much and their books are PACKED full of delicious recipes and information to help you achieve your goals. So I am much looking forward to getting stuck into these in the new year and trying out some of their yummy recipes!
So overall, for health and fitness, my aim is to get to the gym at least once a week to begin with, and slowly go more and more, and also aim to have 6 healthy and clean eating days a week, with one day a week to indulge on some treats! I don’t really need to say this but obviously my main goal is to lose weight, but by doing these things, that should happen!


Most people will have university goals such as getting good grades, getting their assignments in on time, cut back on drinking etc., but for me, my goals include actually getting to Uni! At the moment I have a 20 minute walk and a bridge to face in order to get to Uni, or a 5 minute drive and a hefty parking charge – neither one ideal when living with ME/CFS. So next year, I am really going to try and walk in all the time. This way, I’ll save a ton of money, I’ll get fitter and healthier, and I’ll hopefully feel better about myself and will feel more motivated for everything else!

Blogging & Social Media

I have a few different blogging goals, my main one this year is to grow my NEW Instagram page – that’s right, new! I’ve created this one to really focus on my health and fitness. I’m posting health dishes I’ve made, motivating and inspiring quotes, and snippets of my fitness and weight loss journey. I’m also using that to follow other like-minded people, who are either in the industry and can give me tips and ideas for my own journey, or I can follow other people who are on their health and weight loss journey.

My other blogging goal is to grow my Facebook group, Blogging in Bed. I created this a few months ago, and at the moment I have about 50 members of the chronic illness blogging community involved. Basically, the group is aimed at chronic illness, or mental illness bloggers, who can share their blogs and social media accounts on weekly or daily threads and can follow other people who are in the same community. So please feel free to join the group if you’d like to!
I am also aiming to use my blogging Snapchat every day; I feel like it’s a great way to connect with you all on a daily basis, and I love seeing other blogger’s Snapchats each morning. So if you haven’t already, why don’t you add me over on Snapchat? My username is amysaunders08.

Personal Life

A lot of what I’ve already talked about is included in my personal life, but to be more specific, I am going to try and write in my journal every day (Angus bought me a beautiful leather one for Christmas!), and I now have a lovely notebook which I am going to specifically use for goals. The first two pages are full of yearly goals and ideas, and from then on, I am going to do weekly goals, tailored to how I am feeling that week and what I achieved from the previous week. I really feel like this will help me be more focused and motivated, and I think this is going to be a great way to keep track of everything I’m doing, in order to manage my time better.
Also, I really want to concentrate on spending more quality time with Angus – we’re really good at takeaways and film nights, but not so good at actually going out on a date night together! So this year, I really want to try and have a date night twice a month, where we can go to the cinema, or go out for a meal and spend some quality time together. So Angus, if you’re reading this, and I haven’t already told you, you know what we’re doing!

So there are a few of my goals for 2017. Overall, I want this year to be balanced. I no longer want to feel guilty when I have a pizza, but at the same time, I don’t want to be having pizza every week, I want to be on track with Uni work and my blog, but I don’t want to overwork and pressure myself. It’s all about balance this year.
I am so unbelievably excited to get started on these, and some of them I’ve already started last week! I hope this inspires you to write your own list of goals and I hope we all have a successful year!
