First Year Round-Up!

Hey everyone! I am so pleased to tell you all that I have officially finished my first year at Uni! I mean… I do have a portfolio to submit next week but the point is I have no more exams/lectures/seminars so Uni is completely done until September!

This year has been a rollercoaster of emotions and I feel like my health has been all over the place but I have come out on top and I’m really looking forward to continuing into second year!

Finishing this year is a huge accomplishment for me, simply because last year I only lasted 6 weeks and now I’ve done the whole year! Looking back, it’s amazing how far I’ve come in terms of my health – there is no way I would have managed this last year and so it has become so clear just how much I needed that year out to concentrate on my health. It was honestly the best decision I ever made!

So in this post I’m going to go through a few of my highlights of the year!

first year, highlights, uni, student

1. My Blog

I originally started this back in September just after I started Uni but due to a Creative Writing course I wasn’t enjoying, I only did a couple of posts between then and February. Then I really got back into it and I’m so glad I did because it has been such an amazing experience these past few months! The blogging community is so supportive and helpful and I can’t even begin to describe how great it feels when somebody has found your post helpful! Writing my blog is so fulfilling and almost therapeutic as it gives me something to concentrate on other than my health and studying!

2. Halloween

This year was the first time I’ve been out for Halloween in York – ok, it was a house party but we went to a bar afterwards! I spent it with my boyfriend and his best friend and we dressed up as Sandy and Danny from Grease except we looked like zombie versions! Well, Angus did, I just put more makeup on than usual! All in all, it was a really great night and I’m looking forward to next Halloween!

3. Good Grades

This one is a pretty major one, especially with my health but I have managed to get consistently good grades which I am so happy about! I have had a few meltdowns over assignments, especially after Christmas where the stress was just making me ill but I got an extension and I managed to do fairly well on it! What this means is that despite my ups, downs and stress meltdowns, my illness isn’t actually getting in the way of achieving what I want and that is the main thing! Obviously I haven’t got my grades back from second semester but fingers crossed they’re all good too!

4. Nights Out

When I wrote my first blog post in September I think I had been out about 4 times in 9 months… Now I have been out about 8 times in 9 months (since September)! This may seem like a measly amount to you but to me it is massive! It is huge for me to be able to go out this much with my health so I am so pleased I have managed even this! Hey, maybe in another 9 months I will be managing one night out per month!

5. Christmas/Easter

I feel like this Christmas has been the most enjoyable for me in a few years and I think that is mainly because I felt like everything was going well for me! My health was (nearly) under control, I had something to work towards (Uni), I was back to doing exercise and I had all my friends and family around me! We had a lot to celebrate over Christmas – my brother was back from Holland for about a week so it was lovely seeing him (although I can’t say I was sorry to see him leave by the end of it!) and it was my Mum’s 50th (sorry Mum!) so we went to see the new Star Wars film with friends and then went for a meal afterwards which was great fun with everyone! I even managed to go out on Boxing Day and drink myself silly with all my friends from home while by brother was the taxi!

The same goes for Easter really – although I feel like I never stopped, it was such a great weekend which I won’t be forgetting in a hurry! You can see what I got up to over here in my post Easter Antics.

6. Birthdays

There’s been a couple of birthdays since September, one of them being my Great Great Uncle’s 90th where the whole family got together and we had a bonfire. We joined this up with my cousin’s 10th birthday and so we did party games in the afternoon with the ‘kids’ and finished it off with fireworks and sparklers in the evening!  It really was a great night!

I’ve already mentioned my Mum’s birthday but it was also Angus’ 21st in February and we spent a lovely day in York together, meeting up with friends in the afternoon and getting Angus drunk off a 70% shot of beer!

So they are my 2015/2016 highlights during my first year at University… I am finishing on a high and I am thoroughly looking forward to the summer holidays and then getting back to Uni again in September!

Please like/share/comment on this post and let me know what your highlights have been! And if you want to check out my other posts why don’t you give me a follow on Bloglovin’?

  1. That zombie make up on your boyfriend is so good! Congrats on finishing your first year! Sometime I really miss college, but registering for classes always gave me a panic attack.

    1. I know he looked great – thanks! I always have a panic over choosing modules because this first semester I’ve ended up choosing two that I didn’t like! Hopefully next year will be different though!
